Spirited Away

Once you've met someone you never really forget them.

Chihiro enters the spirit world because her parents ate the gods' food and became pigs. The logic of the bathhouse — its hierarchies, its work ethics, its spirit-guests — is complete and internally consistent without ever being explained. No-Face's trajectory from lonely hunger to quiet guest is the film's most precise emotional movement. It remains the only non-English-language film to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
